What is the legal limit for the darkness?

Vehicles have different limit based on its type (e.g. Sedan/Station Wagon/Suv/Rv/Hatchback and Ute/VAN/CamperVan.etc)
In common, front 2 windows must be done at least 35% VLT.
For rear windows:
A transparent overlay applied to a rear window of a car (Sedan, Station wagon, Hatchback, Sports car or Convertible) must have an overall VLT of at leas 35%.
All overlay fitted to a rear window of any other vehicle, including a stretch limousine, body transfer vehicle, UTE, RV with 4WD, and Commercial van may be of any tint level. Please google it NZTA VLT Regulations for more information.

In order to find what class is applied to your car, please visit www.carjam.co.nz and entre your vehicle plate number and then if your vehicle is classified —-XMA then front and rear window are allowed 35%. If it is classified—-XMC, then front 35% and rear window is any level of darkness is allowed.

How long does it take?

As for Sedan and SUV type of vehicle takes 2.5hrs.

As for Commercial VAN it takes 3 hrs.
